Hua Hin Harlequins

The story

Anyone can turn up. Everyone gets a run.

Like most good ideas in Hua Hin, this one started over a cold beer.

At Fiji Bula Sports Bar, owner Kordy kept circling a simple thought: why not get outside, get a bit fitter, and build something that lasts? He brought it to John Williams and his wife Naoko. A post went up on the Hua Hin Expats Facebook page. The response was bigger than anyone expected — and Naoko's beachside living room ended up packed with people keen to try touch rugby.

The first formal meeting was at Fiji Bula. Long-term residents and new arrivals shaped what the group would be. Alan, Marty Collins, Peter, and Geoff put the foundation in.

Saturdays in the sea

Saturday sessions became the heart of it. Players of all ages — kids, adults, beginners and experienced heads — turned up to run, pass, laugh, and cool off in the sea afterwards. John and Naoko opened their home for post-game gatherings. Kordy's then-wife Noi turned up on her bike with drinks for everyone.

Kordy moved away in 2020. The group carried on and kept growing. More regular players. Families. Kids. Eventually, the team started travelling — first Chiang Mai in 2025, then Bangkok in early 2026, where the mixed squad had its best showing yet.

What we are now

20–30 regular players, Thai and expat. A 7-person committee. A 400+ member LINE community. Thursday training, Saturday matches, tournaments around Thailand 3–4 times a year.

Members chip in 100 THB a week toward pitch costs. Kit and merch sell to members at fair prices. When inventory sells out, profits go back to the club fund. Sponsors cover what membership doesn't — kit production, tournament fees, advertising, merch inventory. None of this is charity. It's a club, run like a club.

The best part

Everyone can play — including children and ladies. That's what makes it fun. That's what makes it last.
